A Worthy Mission
The oceans give us life, we give them plastic. Together let’s make a change! It is estimated that by 2050 the weight of plastic in the ocean will outweigh that of fish. This is crazy! So we have designed an eco friendly, easy to use, good looking drink bottle that you won’t want to live without.
With a love of plants and a mission of finding the perfect drink bottle, combining the two was the obvious next step. Over the years, we’ve tried and tested A LOT of reusable drink bottles. Glass bottles always seemed too delicate and heavy. The cute paint job eventually chipped off the aluminium ones. And those pesky plastic varieties? Well, they were forever leaching toxins into our precious water. There had to be a better alternative…
After many late nights of research, we became fascinated with this natural resource and it’s amazing benefits. Not only does it look and feel just like plastic, but it’s completely non-toxic and actually reduces carbon emissions (yes, you read that right.) It’s durable, lightweight and 100% recyclable. In conclusion – the PERFECT solution to our drink bottle woes (and pretty darn worthy too!)
A Closer Look
Worthy bottles are designed and made in Melbourne from 100% sustainably grown Sugarcane. They hold 750 mls capacity, are eco-friendly, non toxic and 100% recyclable in the household recycling bin (should you ever consider parting ways with your bottle).
Bioplastics are both renewable and recyclable:
A Worthy Cause
Out of the 23 million people living in Mumbai, 54% live in slum communities. 70% of the children in these communities are malnourished, uneducated and living in high-risk situations. At Worthy we believe we need to give, not just take from the world. So for each bottle sold, we donate 10% of our profit to Vision Rescue, a not for profit organisation seeking to empower individuals and better the lives of those less fortunate.
We’ve been working on Worthy for the last 12 months (technically a bit longer if you count dreaming). We have countless prototypes and now have tried and tested samples. From here, all we need to is ‘press go’ on our production, have the packaging printed and arrange the industrial shed we’ll work from.
Production Schedule Notes:
- Jun 2019 – Purchase sugarcane from Braskem (this can take between 2-12 weeks depending on how much we need as it is produced in Brazil.) Braskem is currently the only supplier in the world supplying sustainably grown sugarcane plastic pellets. Tooling commences (This is the equipment needed to blow mould our bespoke bottle and lid) This will take approximately 6 weeks. Important pre-production samples will be made for testing – another 1- 2 weeks.
- Jul 2019 – Manufacturing commences (2-3 weeks) The raw sugarcane plastic is coloured and sent to manufacturers (bottles and lids produced separately). The bottles are blow moulded and subsequently sent to the printers to have patterns and logos applied. Locally printed eco-friendly cardboard packaging is prepared
- Aug 2019 – Bottles, lids and packaging sent to warehouse where lids are assembled on bottles and bottles placed into the boxes. Boxes are then put in compostable satchels and sent to their new homes!
- Oct 2019 – The happy Backers receive their bottles – goal is by August 2019. We will update you as we go!
Meet Blake, Worthy Bottle Designer
We tried looking for bottle and lid designs to use that are already on the market (trust us, it would have been much quicker, easier and cheaper!), and none matched the feel and ease of use we were after. So we have designed our dream bottle, bespoke- nothing like it. So thus we need a tool made to blow mould our distinct shape. This is the biggest expense- and its the tricky flip top lid design that sets us back the most- with tooling at over $25,000 AUD. We believe it will absolutely be worth all our efforts and risk. Nothing ordinary comes from staying in the easy and known. We have taken calculated risks and thats why we are here and cant wait to get our bottles around the nation and world!
We’re shipping worldwide. We’re working with Sendle -Australia’s first 100% Carbon neutral delivery service.
